DIY Home Decor For Those On A Budget

The decor of a home is what gives it its personality and charm. Adding and altering home decor can become expensive, depending on what is being done to the home. A good alternative to the high priced options would be to use these DIY home decor tips for anyone that wants to save some money.

Cozy living room interior with fireplace beige walls and hardwood floor. Northwest USAOne of the cheapest ways to change the decor of a home is by simply rearranging the furniture that is already in the home. Seeing the same furniture in the same spot in each room will become tiresome, and in most cases, the furniture isn’t placed in an optimal spot to create a good focal point. Moving a couch from one wall to another can create a new focus, while counteracting any movement problems that may have existed. There is also the option of moving furniture to different rooms or getting rid of some entirely if rooms have too much.

What is old can become new when existing furniture is re-purposed with different functionality for home decor reasons. An old table with scratches and scuffs can be given a fresh coat of paint or some finish and used as a stylish desk for a room. A dresser can be split into two parts that have their own purposes. The dresser drawers can be wall mounted to create a bookcase, and the dresser itself can be made into shelves when wooden planks are added to the empty space that used to be occupied by the drawers. There’s no set rule on what can be used, as long as it works.

Wallpaper can go a long way to decorate a home when used on furniture and small sections of walls. Rather than paying for an expensive tile back splash in a kitchen, wallpaper can be used in it’s place and be pretty durable. Wallpaper can also take the place of a headboard in a bedroom and serve as a nice focal point any time a person enters the room. Wallpaper cut into sections and pieces can be applied directly to furniture pieces to give them custom designs that can’t be easily replicated by using paint alone.

Working with fabrics in the form of rugs, curtains, and pillows can also change home decor. Throw pillows are fairly inexpensive and can be added to furniture pieces like sofas for a better look. They can also be made cheaply since a yard of fabric and some stuffing are affordable. Slip covers work well because they can give off the illusion that a piece of furniture is brand new and costs only a fraction of the real thing. New rugs and curtains are sold at pretty much any retail store and when arranged properly will work home decor magic.

Art can also act as cheap home decor. Taking printed pictures, magazine pages, and even pieces from a calendar and framing them can create stylish art pieces that will look great on the wall. This will be especially popular with kids when they want to customize their rooms with their favorite fictional characters.

The cost of DIY home decor can be low if the right options are used. Using these tips and some creativity, it’s possible to spruce up a home without taking on a huge financial setback.
